know

Spaces of Play (SOP) is an arts organisation that is re-imagining community by co-creating dynamic participatory arts spaces.

Our raison d'etre is quite simple; all for art, art for all.

The ethos behind this is much more complex.

We co-create dynamic spaces to play, express and connect which is informed by an integration of theoretic and philosophical frameworks.

We lean on; arts therapeutic theory, Jungian psychotherapy, group work, parts-work, open studio processors, third space concept, ritual theory, community well-being practices, strengths-based approach and inter-subjectivity.

We also bring forward our own theoretical framework, the ‘Spaces in Self’ framework, which is the practice of self-love, self-care, self-regulation and self-reflection, self-expression and self-in-community, to inform our offerings and programs.

Alongside our influences is our own lived experience of loss of community in our postmodern society.

All for Art, Art for All, could be known as our methodology of art and self-expression available to all individuals in a safe and contained program, leading to dynamic and well communities.

donika fazliu

‘Our linguistics are constructed in a way that limits our ability to express to our full potential, therefore when we use expressive and embodied 'language' we increase our ability to express and be heard.'

Donika (Don) Fazliu is an arts psychotherapist, artist and community facilitator. Don is a maverick within the arts therapy profession, gently pushing boundaries to normalise expressive art-making in general public spaces, as well as re-imagining community spaces and rituals.

Don’s life work is to see the expansion of Art Club internationally, and is usually quoted saying, ‘Art Club will be the next Men’s Shed.’ (we love men’s shed!)

Don continues to work on SOP, deepening their arts practice and fleshing out their philosophical and therapeutic approach ‘Spaces in Self’.
